Daniel and other young men were picked to train and be educated to serve in the king’s royal court. Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but the food I say to eat and water to drink.” The guard was reticent (note concerned look on his face) because the king could take his life if results were not satisfactory. Daniel asked him to let them stay on his diet for a ten day trial and see how they compared to the rest who ate royal food and wine.

Jesus quells the storm for the frightened disciples and questions their faith. They haven’t realized that Jesus is God. Typical to human behavior, they are afraid as the storm rages and the boat takes on water from the raging storm. They awaken Jesus from slumber and he quickly halts the storm. The disciples ask, “Who is this man that even a raging storm obeys?” As the storms of our life rage, we become stressed and afraid as well. Jesus will halt them when we call on Him.

Earl Nye managed to — in extremely polite fashion — poke holes in Chairman Steve Ogden’s (left of Perry in caricature) plan to put UTIMCO under the auspices of the state’s pension review board. Dewhurst, on top of bus, is along for the ride.
